DR strings are quickly making a name for themselves. With endorsements such as Marcus Miller. These strings are handmade and use a unique "compression winding" to make the the mass of the strings smaller than the size. For example to make a .045 Bass string they use a core of .017 and a wrap of .015. So mathematically the diameter should be:

.017 + .o15 +.015 = .047
(Wrap added twice for the top and the bottom)

However after the compression winding you end up with a string that measures .045.
